Visiting Istanbul? 5 Tourist Spots to Explore

Istanbul is the most populous city in Turkey and the country’s economic, cultural, and historic center. Located on either sides of the Bosphorus Strait between the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea, Istanbul bridges Asia and Europe physically and culturally. Here, in this blog we are going to bring together some of the best things to explore in Turkey’s beautiful capital Istanbul.

1. Basilica Cistern
The Basilica Cistern offers an insight into the complicated system that once brought drinking water into Istanbul from Thrace – an area of the south-east Balkans. Constructed in the sixth century, the Cistern that once stored the water has been fitted with lights and music. You can often spot fishes flittering around the bases of the 336 columns that support the ceiling.

2. Street Art
Spend some leisure time enjoying the lovely melodies that talented street musicians offer you and try to explore the side streets to give your own reviews on the local graffiti. Well, a stroll around Taksim in the evening will convince you of its magnificence.

3. Topkapi Palace
If there is one absolute must-see site in Istanbul, it must be the Topkapi Palace. Home to generations of sultans and their wives, Topkapi is an abode of lush green courtyards and delicate kiosks; it is a treasury to put the crown jewels in the shade, as well as views to die for over the Sea of Marmara, Bosphorus and Golden Horn. Try to visit Topkapi Palace on a day when no cruise ship is in town to avoid the crowds.

4. Monument of The Republic
Take a look at the monument of the Republic, crafted by the famous Italian sculptor Pietro Canonica, starting from the center of Taksim square. It commemorates the fifth anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Turkey, following the Turkish War of Independence and features revolutionary leaders, Ataturk and Ismet Inonu.

5. Fisherman’s favorite
If you love fishing with locals, you can buy a rod and bait from vendors over the bridge. Fishing enthusiasts come here very early in the morning, so follow their lead and arrive early to get a good spot.
